Patisserie La Duree in Paris

Along with such well-known cafes like Cafe de Flore and Berthillon a patisserie La Duree offers its visitors amazing and unique atmosphere of Paris which makes the city one of the most popular among tourists all over the world.

The patisserie (or rather, it was a bakery firstly) La Duree was founded in 1862 by Louis Ernest Laduree on rue Royale between the Church of Madeleine and the Place de la Concorde. Only nine years later a bakery passed into a patisserie. The author of interior decorations was Jules Chéret, who also created the official logo — angel.

Paris and souvenirs

Agree, that finding yourself in Paris, it is impossible not to bring at least a few souvenirs for yourself, family and friends from this magnificent city. And, of course, we always want to buy something original and preferably not expensive.

In fact, in the center of Paris (as in any other popular touristic city) close to the most popular sights such as Notre Dame, the Louvre or the Eiffel Tower, you can always buy all kinds of magnets, trinket, shirts, mugs with symbols of Paris. And if you’re willing to satisfy your travel hunger by these products, we advise not to rush and buy them in crowded places of the capital of France. Large Parisian shops offer souvenirs more cheaply than the street vendors. The most low prices are offered by numerous souvenir shops in Montmartre near the Place du Tertre and the Basilica of Sacre-Coeur. Here you will find a variety of lithographs and greeting cards with pictures of sights in Paris.

Paris Doll Museum

If you go to Paris with your children or just want to return to childhood for a short while, then we advise you to visit Parisian Museum of Dolls. It is not marked on the main tourist routes, but nevertheless, believe, good mood and lots of ​​positive emotions are guaranteed here.

Despite the fact that the museum is located near very busy Rue de Rivoli in Paris you will be at pains to find it. This place is fairly well hidden from prying eyes in local courtyards.

Paris Doll Museum was opened rather recently, it had happened only in 1994. The basis of today’s museum collection has become the legacy of a father and a son by the name of Odin. The older representative of this family – Guido – worked as a costumier in a theater of Piedmont for a long time. When his son Samy was sixteen years old he had given him a rare book on the making of antique dolls, French costumier and artists whose names are associated with the production of dolls. Maybe it might sound strange someone, but thanks to this rare book the Doll Museum had appeared in Paris.

Rue de Rivoli

Paris is a unique city and this its feature becomes apparent not only in the hundreds of museums, palaces, stone bridges and other attractions. Streets of Paris are works of art themselves. Most of the modern Parisian streets have acquired their appearance during the time of the Emperor Napoleon and the famous city prefect Baron Haussmann. The list of Parisian streets, pretending to be a symbol of the French capital, is rather large, but in this article we would like to tell in short about the legendary Rue de Rivoli.

Rivoli street runs from the Place de la Bastille to the Place de la Concorde along the Seine and is considered one of the brightest achievements of Napoleon on the issue of city planning, although it was completed during the reign of Louis Philippe. The authors of the project on construction of Rue de Rivoli were well-known architects Fontaine and Percier.

Small rectangular Square of Pyramids, surrounded with beautiful buildings with arcades, is a nice adornment of the street. And in the center of the square there is an equestrian statue of the national hero of France – Jeanne d’Arc (author – Fremiet, 1874).

To Paris in winter?

Somebody can say that there is no a great difference where to go to one or another city, because streets, houses, monuments, museums… remain to be at their places. The weather in rainy London in a little different from the weather in Berlin at the same time (of course, excepting famous London fog :-) ). However, in truth it is a very perfunctory view, every city (does not matter – New York, Warsaw, Stockholm, Mexico…) has its own unique distinctive features in summer and winter, in spring and autumn. And since our site is dedicated to Paris, today we would like to say on the merits of Paris in winter – after all, it’s winter now :-)

Paris – bird’s eye view

For the first time man flied up over the Earth in Paris – the first balloon with the people on board had risen into the sky of the French capital more than two centuries ago.

Today anyone can see Paris from a bird’s eye view. And the world’s largest tethered balloon «Air de Paris» is based in a city park, named in honor of the legendary industrialist Andre Citroen.

All year-round every 15 minutes the balloon with 30 passengers in its basket rises over the French capital to a height of 150 meters. The flight lasts 10 minutes – this is enough time to enjoy the magnificent panorama of Paris.
